Close to Cape Agulhas, the furthest point south in Africa, lies the 34 000 Ha De Hoop Nature Reserve. It is next to a marine protected area stretching 5kms into the sea.

Underwater visibility rating: 4/5 (Good)
Climate: · Mediterranean climate. January—March are the best months to visit. · Too cold to swim in winter.
Description: Hundreds of tidal pools from the main beach stretching away along the coast. Just walk until you find a deserted one.

Access to site: 3/5 (Average) 260 km from Cape Town. Dirt road from Bredasdorp, 4x4 not required.

Fish variety: 3/5 Dolphins spotted occasionally. Southern right whales mating/calving ground at De Hoop, but in winter months.
Other fauna: Bontebok, Zebra, Eland, Baboon, Leopard (very rare)
Flora: Fynbos. Threatened species.
Fixed Accommodation: Self-catering cottages, a 10-person home and camp sites.
Camping Accommodation: The campsite is on an elevated section overlooking the De Hoop Vlei. 10 stands with a view. Costs—R275 per night per stand.
